Sheriff Antonio Hash Leads Effort to Connect with Roanoke’s Unhoused Community

Updated: Apr 7

ROANOKE, Va. — Sheriff Antonio Hash is leading a powerful effort to strengthen trust between law enforcement and Roanoke’s unhoused population through hands-on community outreach.

Under his leadership, the Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office partnered with local nonprofit KoolKids to serve meals at the Roanoke Rescue Mission, offering support and compassion to individuals experiencing homelessness. The initiative is part of a national community engagement network, with Roanoke standing out as one of just 21 participating departments across the country.

“This is about giving hope and building unity,” said Sheriff Hash. “When we step out of the uniform and into the community, that’s where real connection happens.”

Sheriff Hash continues to champion a model of community policing that reaches all corners of the city — proving that law enforcement can lead with empathy, action, and purpose.
