ROANOKE, Va. — Just days after its launch, the Ceasefire: Victory in the Valley campaign is already showing signs of reducing gun violence in Roanoke, according to Sheriff Antonio Hash.
Kicked off September 8, the initiative unites law enforcement, local clergy, and the community in a 30-day push to end gun-related violence. “Ceasefire today. Ceasefire tomorrow... Enough is enough,” Sheriff Hash said during the launch.
Despite a rise in fatal shootings earlier this year, Hash says the campaign has sparked a positive shift. Community support has surged, with residents volunteering and donating to the cause.
Even if violence occurs during the campaign, Hash made it clear: the mission continues. “If something happens, we don’t stop. Tomorrow, we push for ceasefire again.”
The initiative also promotes safe gun storage, mental health support, and youth mentorship. Free gun locks are available at all Roanoke City schools through the Sheriff’s Office and Police Department.
